Intersections: Color, Shape and Geometric Abstraction, Patrick Schmidt 2004 - 2022 Exhibition in the Shirley and Fred A. Pechter Gallery and Paul I. Detwiler Education Center on display July 1, 2022 – September 18, 2022 Dive deep into the powerfully complex relationship between color, shape, and pattern through a passionate reflection of Patrick Schmidt’s vibrant and bold artworks. Schmidt’s brilliant pieces reflect his adoration for music, with the colors and abstracted patterns feeling rhythmic and bold. His interpretation and understanding of color - empowered by the idea that there really is no right way to interpret or understand color - has enabled him to beautifully convey the relationship between color, shape, and pattern, and conclude that color is truly what we make of it. “Color is inherently timeless…”, according to Schmidt. Schmidt’s research is also based on the beautifully simple idea that color and pattern possess a unique power to define us and speak to our prejudices. Color, pattern, and geometric shapes have been a driving force throughout an illustrious career, and Schmidt has developed a unique blending of digital art with stencils to create a powerful balance between chaos and harmony.

Twenty-five Year Survey paintings by Michael M. Strueber ​Exhibition In the Titelman Galleries and the Paula and Dean Lemley Gallery of SAMA Bedford July 29, 2022 - October 9, 2022 ​Michael M. Strueber was born in 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At present, his paintings are held in over 400 private and public collections in 38 states. In this exhibition, viewers can see his most recent paintings and the progression of his style and influences by bringing together his varied works from the past 25 years. Strueber states, "The seven distinct and separate galleries at SAMA Bedford have afforded me the first opportunity to display these works alongside my other painting dimensions. To that end, I have chosen a series of works which have been inspired by the new millennium, paintings which were impacted by the music of Stravinsky’s, Fire Bird, mixed media pieces influenced by a series of American quilts, a series of French reflections and pieces reflecting pure abstractions. Finally, at my age, it is humbling to look back at what has and continues to make my life worth living.”

Elizabeth Wilson graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1984, and is now having her first solo museum show. It will be up at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Altoona through December 4th 2022. “Elizabeth Wilson: Spirit of Place” features 30 landscape paintings that trace her life over the past two decades through travel and the pandemic isolation. Full disclosure, my wife and I have been close friends with Liz for decades and even spent time together in England, which is one of her favorite painting haunts. She also has painted scenes of Italy, Nova Scotia, and a number of states here in America.

Lunch a La Art is an exclusive opportunity for guests to experience the museum in a personal and individual manner. In this Lunch a La Art, current exhibiting artist and Director Emeritus, Michael M. Strueber, gives a guided tour of his "Twenty-five Year Survey" exhibition at the SAMA Bedford Museum on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. Welcome to the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Altoona is one of five museums throughout Western Pennsylvania that the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, affectionately refers to as SAMA. SAMA was established in 1976 to provide a cultural resource for the region’s underserved rural population and to promote local artists in their respective areas and bring new eyes to our wonderful collection of American art. These exhibitions were on display in 2022.
